# This is a pepper plant (serrano or jalapeno, I think) I’ve grown from…

_Publié par Erin le 2024-10-13_

This is a pepper plant (serrano or jalapeno, I think) I’ve grown from seed…it’s falling over (hence the newly added support) and I don’t know why. The roots haven’t outgrown the pot. The soil is still damp, so I’m not inclined to water yet. It has drainage space between the bottom of the plastic and ceramic pots. It sits in a south facing window. Any tips?

No tips but are you sure that’s a pepper? It looks like a tomato.

I agree it does look tomato-y! But yes it’s a pepper, I’m the one who saved the seeds from the pepper.

It’s a tomato plant. 🍅 It needs at least 8 hours of full sun or 12-14 hours under a grow light. Low or insufficient light can make it pale and limp.

Insufficient fertilizer can make it pale and limp, as well. Use a fertilizer specifically for tomatoes, high in phosphorus.

Tomatoes and other vegetables need to grow in big pots, 3 gallons and bigger. You have to repot repeatedly until it’s big enough for the larger pots. It’s very late in the growing season or I would recommend planting it outside in a pot or in ground. It’s tricky.

thank you for your input, but I assure you that it is indeed a pepper plant. I cut open a pepper and saved the seeds from within. Definitely a pepper. Not a tomato.

Wow! It’s the jagged leaf edges and fuzzy texture that are throwing me off.
The recommendations are the same. A fertilizer higher in phosphorus and potassium is good for the peppers.

My pepper plants did the same when I started them from a seed. Even though I had them in a sunny spot they still needed help from a grow light. They finally got a stronger trunk when I stuck them outside. I would suggest a grow light.

serrano and jalapeno plants both have smooth edged leaves — all pepper plants that i’ve grown, in fact — bell, poblano, all smooth edges, no fuzz

folks, i don’t know how else to express that the seeds from within a pepper have no choice but to grow into a pepper lol

This plant would like to identify as a tomato but is, in fact, still a pepper. 😆
