# What does Planta consider part sun? I have a single east facing…

What does Planta consider part sun?

I have a single east facing window in the room my plants are in that recieves a good few hours of direct light in the morning and less in the afternoon/evening, and based on what Planta had told me, most of my plants need to be within a foot or two to be getting proper light. Even my succulent (as shown in the pics) is placed in the window and Planta says its not getting enough. Is this correct? Could there be something I’m doing wrong?

Make sure all your info is input, especially how far away from the window it is.🤍🪴

An east facing window will get softer light in the morning and barely any direct light midday and through the evening. Sammy will do best with strong, bright light all day long. Based on your room settings, Planta knows the window Sammy is placed in will only receive part sun, but echeverias need direct sun all day to be their best.

oh okay, so would part sun be the incorrect term for the lighting conditions in the room? would shade be more precise?

Part sun is correct based on your description but the plant needs full sun. I believe Planta is showing the warning because the plant is only getting part sun.

To be clear, I think full sun is only when they are basically in desert type conditions where they really do get full sun ALL day with no shade around them. I have a porch that gets “Full sun” for about 4-5 hours a day before the porch cover makes it shady, but Planta still says that is not enough light. However, aside from putting them way on the side of my property (or on my roof 😆), that is the most sun I can give them and they seem to be doing ok. I just think with a few super picky cacti and succulents, the more outside, direct light you can give them, the better.

Not sure if a plant light would help in these picky guys.
