I was gifted a Chinese money tree yesterday. It came with a baby growing and in a glaze ceramic pot with no drainage. I'm planning on repotting. Will this hurt the baby plantlet? I know they are still attached but is there anything I need to do besides be gentle?

I would add some drainage to the pot, these plants like to be fully dried out before the next water.
This is what you will see on the back of the leaves if you don’t have enough drainage. This is technically a fungus that can spread to the rest of the plant if not cut out.

If you want to repot and take it out of the ceramic pot, I would definitely recommend that.. put it in a plastic pot. Because it’s winter you can keep its original soil (add if you need some extra).

If you do take the plant out of the pot you should find that the plantlet is growing as a shoot from the main stem of the mother plant. You can either keep it attached and plant it together with the mother, or cut it off and propagate it in water until it forms its own roots. That’s why this plant is also known as a Friendship Plant, you are able to propagate and share!

If you repot, look for a band they sometimes put on the base when they braid them. Cut it off.

I find the baby plants are easy to get started on their own. Mine has produced several babies that have done very well. I usually put them directly in their own pot.
