# Hello everyone, I was gifted this Swiss cheese plant in water back in…

Hello everyone,
I was gifted this Swiss cheese plant in water back in December. She has grown taller and produced a few new leaves since. Do I have to transfer her to soil or leave her in water, also, how can I get her bushy? I’m afraid to cut her , she’s so pretty and I don’t want to kill her. TIA 😊

i have a monstera similar and it was in water for about 4 months but i noticed it wasn’t growing to its full potential so i transferred it to indoor plant potting soil and it seems to be loving it!

Yess definitely put it in soil and a moss pole would make the leaves grow huge

i would not recommend putting this plant directly in soil. when plants are established in water, their roots are too fine and soft for an easy transition— potting it in soil can likely cause transplant shock and potentially root rot. i would recommend a semi-hydro setup in between; you could pot it in leca, perlite, pumice, or a similar substrate. after a few months in semi-hydro the plant should be acclimated to some level of drought and better prepared to grow roots in soil or soilless media. i recommend either buying a premade aroid mix like one from sol soils or repotme dot com, or mixing your own media with coco coir or potting soil for the moisture retentive element, and pumice and/or perlite for drainage at minimum. some people like to add bark or coco chips and other bits as well. most commercial potting soil, even if labeled for indoor use, is too dense for most houseplants and will take too long to dry. miracle gro soils are also well known for being full of fungus gnats so i advise against using it, especially without amendment.

I believe this is a monstera adansonii, they are prone to root rot so you’ll want to use a very chunky soil
