Is this salvageable?

Took it from a friend and I’ve already removed all the dead leaves and roots. How can I help it grow again?

Also, is this a snake plant?

That looks like it should do very well. Put it in some water to let the roots grow some more. Yes that is a snakeplant. Snake plants are very durable and tough plants and will do well just about anywhere

definitely a snake plant, and definitely salvageable! as long as it is cared for properly. i would put it in the tiniest pot available, ideally 2” or so, in a coarse, well-aerated media. my succulent mix for snake plants and the like is at least half grit like pumice and perlite. water only when the soil is totally dry, i wait for the pot to be so light it feels almost empty. place it somewhere it gets a fair amount of bright, indirect light but not too much direct sun, if you don’t know what the lighting situation was it’s better to gradually adjust even a sun-loving plant to bright, direct light to reduce the risk of burn. i would only recommend putting it in water if you plan to keep the plant growing hydroponically, and if so it’s a good idea to wash the roots very thoroughly or trim all the soiled ones away to reduce the chance of any rot setting in.

Yes, this is a snake plant (Sansevieria), also known as mother-in-law's tongue. The plant looks salvageable but will need careful attention to recover fully. Here’s what you can do:

1\. \*\*Root Care\*\*: Since you’ve already removed the dead roots and leaves, check the remaining roots for any signs of rot. The healthy roots should be firm and white, like in the photos. If the roots are soft or mushy, remove those parts carefully.

2\. \*\*Repotting\*\*: Place the plant in a well-draining soil mix, like a cactus or succulent mix. Sansevieria prefers sandy, well-aerated soil.

3\. \*\*Watering\*\*: Water it sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can easily cause rot in snake plants.

4\. \*\*Lighting\*\*: Give it bright, indirect sunlight. Snake plants are hardy and can tolerate low light, but brighter conditions will encourage faster growth.

5\. \*\*Humidity\*\*: Snake plants do well in normal household humidity, so you don't need to worry about special conditions.

With these steps, the plant should start growing again! It will take some time, but Sansevierias are resilient.
