I’ve inherited a lovely (and huge) split leaf philodendron from my husband’s aunt. (She’s moving and can’t fit the plant in her new place). We moved the plant to our place on Saturday and the poor thing is in shock from the car transport. (Leaves totally droopy and looking rather sad.) I gave her some water and am doing my best to help her settle in. Should I keep waiting to see if she perks up? Or, Given that the droopy stems/leaves are so heavy, should I stake a moss pole to help support her droopy leaves and encourage her to climb upward? She’s never been staked (she has the thickest trunk I’ve ever seen on a philodendron) but the green stems growing from it are now very droopy.

Photo below is BEFORE she was moved. I think she could use something to climb. Thoughts?

Im no expert but I think it needs a bigger pot?

Great point! I think she might too— but I was worried about repotting her when she’s already in shock? Also I don’t own any pots that big yet— (though I’m looking forward to having an excuse to head to our local plant nursery!)

The healthy leaves on this variety don’t droop or need staking. I had a few in my yard for years before snow killed them. But, staking won’t hurt it.

I recommend delaying repotting a few weeks until the plan has settled.

It could be the move that is adding to the stress of the plant. It needs full sunlight 8hours to 10 hours a day in the summer and fertilizer about once a month since it’s an older plant.

I recommend giving it about 2 weeks to 3 weeks to settle in at its new location. Cut off all the dead or dying leaves. Remove dead leaves off the soil. Water when it’s about 1/2 way dry. Don’t follow a strict schedule or you can overwater. 🍀🪴
