Hi! I recently got rid of spider mites on this poor boy. I also noticed he hadn’t been repotted so I did that. He seemed to be getting better but then all of a sudden his leaves started to turn yellow then eventually brown. Do you think this is over watering or not enough sun?

I have three aglaonema I have not killed yet but I’ve lost a few and mostly to root rot. For some reason, at least the ones I had, they are prone to root rot. I know you just repotted him but did you check the roots and touch them and smell them to make sure they were healthy? Did you choose a pot no more than an inch larger than the old pot? Too large a pot can cause root rot because the roots can’t pull the water out of the soil fast enough, so it stays wet too long. I would check those roots now. The yellow leaves are a symptom of many things but root rot is one of those things. You want to remove all slimy rotten roots and leave all the good ones, and then spray them with hydrogen peroxide before planting them back in soil. And choose a pot just a tad larger than your root ball. If you find root rot, get rid of all the old soil and clean and sterilize your pot and any tools you used to cut the roots. The bacteria that causes root rot is infectious so that’s important. If no root rot check for thrips and mealy bugs including on the roots. Good luck! I hope you can save your aglo!!

I have that same plant, and the leaves yellowed similar to your pictures, then started falling off. It ended up being root rot as well! I was surprised because I’m very careful and I’ve never had a plant get root rot before. I ended up trimming off the rotten roots and putting the stems in water for a while, and I just replanted it in well draining soil a couple days ago. So far it seems happy. Good luck with your beautiful plant!

I pulled him out and his roots didn’t seem to be sick. Maybe I missed something 😭

That’s good, I’m glad you don’t have root rot! What you were describing seemed similar to what I experienced, but it must be a different problem.
