# One of my saddest plants that’s struggled since I moved house a few…

_Posted by Eva on 2025-02-24_

One of my saddest plants that’s struggled since I moved house a few months ago. I’m not sure how to help it as – due to neglect – it could be down to any number of reasons 😭

For context, I thought I was overwatering it so I let it dry out a bit more than I would have otherwise and then I thought I’d underwatered it and then I wasn’t sure so went back and forth between watering it a lot and a little. Finally I realised a month ago that I’d missed that it was completely pot bound and needed repotting, which I did, but the leaves keep on developing these dark patches. It’s always been a little sensitive, way more so than any of my other pothos have ever been, and I’m worried about making it worse with this scattergun approach.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should try, or is it better to chop and prop and start again? 💔

I have one like this and she’s always been very dramatic. I try to just leave her alone but I don’t let her get too try. Recently I trimmed her back quite a bit and I’ll see how the propagation goes.

Let it dry out completely. Use a wooden stake to test. Stick it all the way down and leave it for five or ten minutes. When you pull it out it should be pretty much clean and dry, not damp. Some people wait until their pothos start drooping a bit. I don't do this cuz I think it stresses the plant more than necessary since you can water them before that. But if you would like to let it dry out that much once just to make sure its actually dry it probably wouldn't hurt. Then next time you can just water it a couple days sooner (making sure the soil is dry of course, I've found that most plants need watering pretty much the same amount of days every time but sometimes changes in the environment can mess the up). What kind of soil did you use when you repotted it?

I have three and all look like this since I brought them in before the last winter storm hit. I’m in zone 9. They are in much lower humidity, in less light and got too dry while inside the house. So, they have leaves with dry spots. Yours probably got too dry being root bound. Roots can get damaged during a repot.

I would leave it to adjust to the new pot and soil. It could take a few weeks. Let the roots recover and heal.

Test the soil to verify it’s dry, per the directions KJM recommended, before watering.

Bright indirect light helps with the variegations. Add a grow light if needed.🪴🍀

It looks like most of the browning is on the super white variegated parts, is it in higher light than it was before the move? I’ve had some of my super variegated parts of plants burn from too much sun

ADD SILICA TO YOUR WATER 10/10 recommendation for all variegated plants
