My tradescantia has been suffering for weeks now. I repotted with better drainage and moved closer to window, but it’s still losing leaves/vines. Any ideas?

some additional info could help:
what does your watering schedule look like? what direction does the window face? is it cold outside, or near a heater?

Windows face southwest. I’m in NYC, and it’s cold outside. I have a radiator in front of the window but I keep it closed/off because it gets too hot otherwise (but the heat rises from apartments below). Before I got this app I watered once a week, now I follow Planta’s schedule. I realize the before photo I uploaded is still in front of the window - it really started losing leaves when it was on my bookcase in the south/southwest corner so I thought maybe it wasn’t getting enough light so I first moved it to the windowsill and then repotted with better drainage.

the window direction seems fine, but i just hope its not too cold for the plant.
planta seems to be getting better with its scheduling AI, but i would still make sure to only use it as a reminder - check the soil's moisture (should be halfway dry) before watering to avoid root rot. you can do this with a wooden chopstick or skewer by sticking it in the soil, making sure it reaches the bottom. leave it for a few mins, and then grab the stick at the soils surface and pull it out. if the stick has wet soil sticking to half or less than half of it, then give it a good watering. if more than half, wait to water and check again in a few days :)

whats funny is the bare vines look dried from a lack of water. does the pot feel significantly heavier after you water? if not the soil could be hydrophobic. bottom watering for about half an hour and allowing it to fully soak up the water will fix this.
also, when you repotted, were the roots healthy? as Sydnei asked, whats the size comparison between the rootball and pot?

I am going to try these suggestions, thank you!

how big is the pot compared to the rootball? may be a little deep. or transplant shock

This new pot with drainage is much bigger than the last pot. The last pot was too small for the roots and didn’t have good drainage. But it started wilting and dropping leaves in the old pot before i moved it to the windowsill.

Are you checking to make sure it needs watering before you water it?

Yes, soil feels dry
