# Can someone tell me what’s wrong with my airplant? I got it a couple…

Can someone tell me what’s wrong with my airplant?

I got it a couple weeks ago and it was browning but then it started getting green, which was good! But now one of the stems is almost black and some stems are falling off of the base very easily.

I soak it in water every 1-2 weeks and make sure to spray it once a week. I also shake it off every time I put water on it.

Is there no luck?

is the base firm? if yes, there's hope. if no, unfortunately she's very dead. when watering you can't just shake them out, you have to flip them upside down and let them dry for a few hours to get the water out from between the leaves.

The base is firm! I do flip it upside down too, forgot to mention that, thank you.

is the dead crispy? crispy is underwatering, mushy is overwatering. i've noticed my smaller airplants don't enjoy misting and like to just kinda chill until the next watering

Hmmm, it is crispy. I’ll be sure to water it more and do less misting! Thank you for your help 🌱

If this plant has flowered then it is dying. That's the way bromeliads are. They bloom once and then die. In theory the parent plant will put out pups before it dies. When you soak your plant you should be using distilled or filtered water and soak for about 15 minutes before placing it on its side or upside down allowing it to dry. How often you mist would depend on how dry the air in your house is. If your heat is running I would mist it daily. If you live in a humid climate then maybe once a week or twice is enough.

Also, is it in any drafts that are either cold or warm. That could influence its moisture needs.

When you water it, do you stick it right back into the bright sun? That’ll do it.
