# got the plant as a gift in july 2024, has been kept in a part shade…

_Postat av greendream den 2025-03-22_

got the plant as a gift in july 2024, has been kept in a part shade part sun part of the house with some inconsistent watering, plant has slowly died since then.. thinking its due to lack of humidity and lack of water schedule?

repotted plant recently and tried to get rid of any root rot i saw, didnt see many healthy white roots.. used a 6inch pot with drainage

6 inch pot when you barely saw any healthy roots is probably too big for this plant. Is the middle “nest” part buried? Also what soil did you use when you repotted it? It looks like normal potting soil which is going to be much too dense for a fern.

it is actually a 5.6” pot and i used vigoro all purpose potting mix but i do have fast draining soil. the root ball is buried and the base is slightly elevated from the rest of the soil.

what plantlady said ☝🏼 i’d pot-size down \& amend the soil for some air pockets. also because it’s a fern i’d use a self-watering pot or a watering globe! they like consistent moisture.

My guess is the inconsistent watering effected it. Ferns can take a dive under those conditions. However i see your schedule is every 3 days, that's quite a lot. Even fir a fern, unless you're in like 10% humidity. Which may be what lead to the root rotting.
