# Help Please!!! These gnats….they are in all of my indoor plant’s soil…

_Publicado por Annie el 2025-04-03_

Help Please!!!
These gnats….they are in all of my indoor plant’s soil and they fly around your face! I’ve been thinking of using neem oil. I can’t spray. (disabled) I asked about putting on a cloth and laying on top of soil, most everyone said I could mix it in the water and just water the plants.

I’m wondering if there is another suggestion other than neem oil?? Especially for gnats.

Mosquito bits/mosquito dunks/bti drops will eradicate them. I’ve used mosquito bits myself, just made a tea with them in my watering can and used it every time I watered for a few weeks and the gnats were gone.

Stuff you can buy to eradicate fungus gnats. Google them and you can purchase them online.

I just looked on Amazon and found out what it was. Thank you. I just wasn’t sure if it was something I had to make.

You can put sand on top of the soil it will trap the eggs in the soil but you can only bottom water afterwards

Been here before! You are likely over watering a bit. I got rid of mine by diligently using Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) drops (more common is to use Mosquito Dunks) in almost all watering. Google it- it takes a few weeks to cycle but kills the larvae! I also bottom water everything I can which really helps! I have a house full of plants and I see maybe a gnat every few months now.

I like that idea but pots are so expensive. I’ll have to buy 1 every month if there is any money left after doctor copays.

To help catch the flying adults, try yellow sticky traps. It works for me. Very easy to use. You can get them online or at garden supply store. They are just sticky glue traps that you stick into the plant pot. The gnats are attracted to the color. No chemicals and safe for pets or kids etc. Place the sticky trap at the edge of the plant pot. When the gnats first appear from the soil they are weak flyers and will walk right up onto the glue traps. Put one sticky trap in each of your plants.

I use mosquito bits and sticky traps as well as plug in sticky traps. I have over 70 plants and many need high humidity so their soil never completely dries out in between watering as I run a humidifier for them. The gnat larvae like moist soil. Any plants that you can let dry out completely will kill the larvae but the flying adults need the sticky traps. I also use a spray that kills them.

Putting cinnamon on top of the soil can kill off their food source I believe. It's worked for me but I'm not 100% sure why it works lol
