# Agreed to assess the condition of my building's Split Leaf…

_Opslået af BlondeinBrooklyn den 2025-06-13_

Agreed to assess the condition of my building's Split Leaf Philodendron (Selloum).

The plant had so much root rot it was literally falling out of the pot (which was a 12" terracotta pot inside a decorative planter.

Cut almost all the leaves off, half the roots \& washed with my homemade pest spray. I reported its condition to my neighbors \& they essentially suggested binning it.

Not on my watch!

So now I have a sick plant, very little room for a rehabilitation set up \& zero clue. She's sitting in the only glass vase (plant food added to water) I had \& I cut all but one leaf (thinking it would help with photosynthesis?)

Am I taking on a lost cause? Tips?

Did you treat the root rot by soaking the roots in hydrogen peroxide? If not, it’ll kill any lingering bacteria from the rot, and adding Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder to the roots can help the plant recover faster and grow its root system back faster. Hope this helps.

no, i just sprayed it down with the neem/peppermint/isopropyl alcohol spray. i can get some HP tomorrow. Do I dilute? And soak for how long?

Also I have Bonide's rooting powder but had just been using as a spot treatment for cuttings. Didn't think of adding it to the water!

Thanks so much!!!

No problem! Sorry, should’ve clarified. I mean adding the rooting powder to the roots, not to the water. And you don’t need to dilute the peroxide. Before adding the rooting powder, place the plant’s roots in a bowl and fill it with hydrogen peroxide until all the roots are covered for 20-30 minutes, then take it out and pat it dry. You can add the rooting powder after the peroxide soak to help the plant recover faster and grow new roots.
