This plant is at my public library and it is sooo sticky! Covered in what looks like corn syrup. It also has these little of white dots on it to… my thought is scales, any ideas?

definitely scale, i circled one of the bugs i spotted in your photo. the sticky substance is called honeydew, it’s their waste. the infestation looks pretty severe but luckily scale are relatively easy to treat. i would remove as many bugs as possible and wipe the whole plant down with an isopropyl alcohol solution

Thanks y’all! It’s the library’s plant So I can’t treat it but I will tell the library Director, who I happen to be good friends with.
