I bought a bird of paradise and a Dieffenbachia . Both have dying new leaves . Is it due to a lack of light of overwatering ?

Those are the oldest leaves, so it could just be normal life span of the leaves. If new leaves yellow then there’s an issue.

the oldest leaves are always the ones closest to the soil line and it’s normal for them to die off first.
