Benjamin can be very touchy. This is what I call The ficus freak out! Changes in its environment often cause it to freak out. Trim off any dead leaves branches, shape your plant as needed, make sure it has nice fresh soil and fertilize it weakly weekly. Yes if the branch is dry it's dead. If you're not sure you could begin trimming near the end of the branch and keep trimming until you see any life in it.
