# Help!!! I have a small Gardenia plant that i just planted back in…

Help!!!

I have a small Gardenia plant that i just planted back in May. 2 weeks ago some of the leaves started turning yellow. Last Saturday i noticed a couple leaves were dead, a crisp brown and then 2 days later, this….. first picture was Saturday. Last two were on Monday

So spring planting is tough (especially that late in the season) because you have to be super diligent about watering. Are you watering it enough?

I mean yea i thought so but im kinda doubting everything now. I’ve had this other app that helps me keep up with it and i bought these meters to help keep check also. It did get dry a couple weeks ago tho and i immediately watered at that point

It’s a high water need plant so I would start watering it. Once the roots are established fully (by spring next year) it should be OK during a few dry spells but you’ll need to supplement until then.

It’s raining today so definitely getting plenty of water. I fertilized last weekend with granulated fertilizer for acid loving plants. Hopefully it will be ok. Should i prune that side? I’m afraid to do that with it being so much of the entire plant. It looks dead but doesn’t break off when i bend some of the smaller branches on that side so i guess it’s not completely dead? Thank you for replying to my concern also. I appreciate it

I’ve been watering pretty much 2-3 times a week since i planted it. Maybe every other day?

If the branches aren’t snapping off, you can leave it for now. Hopefully it will bounce back! How hot are your summers? I’m in Atlanta and it’s tough to plant them in spring here!
