# Anyone have any ways to keep squirrels out of plants or deter them…

Anyone have any ways to keep squirrels out of plants or deter them from coming around? Currently being terrorized over here. He’s digging up my potted plants to bury his nuts. He will even square up to me when I try to shoo him away. (I don’t want to say I’m scared of him, but I’m kinda scared of him)

I don’t have much advice. I don’t think much stops a determined squirrel. If you remove the pots for a while they may eventually move on. Scientists estimate squirrels forget about 80% of where they bury stuff (they’re why we have so many trees), so removing their current stash spot may encourage them to move along and forget about those pots. As for confronting them while they’re not normally going to inflict much damage if any but one bite will result in some necessary shots from a doctor

I feel your pain! Squirrels dug up my decorative sweet potato and ate it! I’ve had that plant over a year! I have dogs that keep them at bay while the dogs are out. I also have noise makers to startle them. I make them myself. Use a soda or food can with metal parts/coins or pebbles taped inside using duct tape. Just throw it close to the pot when the culprits are around the pot. You don’t need to hit them. The loud noise startles them. They associate tragedy with the location of the noise. 🥫🛢️🐿️

Put a plastic hawk/owl near your pots. I have real hawks that land on my fence once in awhile. They scare the squirrels for days after the hawk leaves. 🦉🦅

I have an issue with chipmunks in my area. I resorted to putting medium size stones on top of the soil to keep them out.
