# Does anyone have any advice about taking care of spider plants? I had…

Does anyone have any advice about taking care of spider plants? I had about two over the course of 1 year and both died pretty quickly. When I take them to my parents house over the summer they flourish but when I take them back with me to school they die a few months later. Any suggestions?? For extra context my apartment at school doesn’t have a lot of natural light so I mainly use grow lights for my plants. I also put the spider plants around the same area of my other low light plants. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

How often do you water? They like a bit of neglect over being watered too frequently. Mine isn’t in the brightest spot but gets watered when it’s dry/pot feels really light

I usually watered them whenever the top inch of the soil was dry

Too much. Literally wait for them to basically completely dry out

Wait until they are completely dry. Then, wait another day if you are not sure the soil is completely dry! They have thick finger like roots that store plenty of water. The leaves go slightly limp when it needs water.

They thrive in bright light. All of mine get direct morning sunlight and they are in bright shade the rest of the day when outside. The few I take inside are within 1 ft from a grow light running 12 - 14 hours a day. They grow slower in low light conditions. 🍀🪴

I had one that died last year, I feel due to overwatering. I went with the app’s suggestion. I love the spider plants, so I tried again. I go with my own schedule now. I kinda ignore it. I water it only when it’s dry.

I switched my spider plant to distilled water and it has been a game changer. Everyone above has good advice too!

Mine is in leca and a self watering pot and I use distilled water with Formulex nutrient, and she’s doing very well. Semi-hydro was a game changer for me, definitely recommend.

I use grow lights I live is north east Ohio and I only use distilled water and she is doing great I only water when she is completely dry , she also gave me 12 babies
