# Hi Planta friends! I have a Bird of Paradise that has two stalks…

_Geplaatst door April Neufeld op 2025-03-15_

Hi Planta friends! I have a Bird of Paradise that has two stalks (please forgive if that’s not the right terminology 😬) from the same root ball. They were both doing well for a couple years, but now I’m noticing one is doing significantly better than the other. They both put out new leaves at the same time, while the good side opened perfectly and is now shooting out another, the struggling side never really properly opened - it took months and even ripped in the process. It also had another leaf the randomly went brown and crispy on one edge with no good reason that I can tell - its care and location has always been the same. This side is progressively getting droopier too, while the good side is fine. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you! ☺️

The pot it’s in looks small for the size of the plant. I would try repotting - it could be root bound.

Thank you so much for the advice! I’ll try a bigger pot and see if that helps ☺️

as the other person said the pot is definitely really small i have a baby bird of paradise and ive already had to go from 4 to 8 in because her roots were taking up so much room the 6 in was too small! so go up about 3 in especially because there’s two!

Thank you so much for your help! ☺️Would you recommend amputating the struggling one, or any of its leaves? or just see how they both do in the bigger pot?

see how they do! and then i would see how it goes from there! if you do decide to chop it obviously would grow back in no time!

I’ve repotted into a much bigger pot now, you were absolutely right it was root BOUND lol. Kept all the bits so will see how they do now, thanks again ☺️
