# Good morning everyone, I have a beautiful snake plant that just…

_Gepostet von Untetheredlove am 2024-02-02_

Good morning everyone,
I have a beautiful snake plant that just recently got two spots and a rotted leaf, that I pulled out .
I’m following the water scheduling, per the app, which is about once a month.
These are the first spots I’ve had on the plant and I’m wondering if I’m watering too much. I struggle determining soil moisture from dry damp to moist . I bought a moisture reader, which reads it’s dry, but when I put my finger in it feels damp not moist. From what I’ve read the snake plant doesn’t like a lot of water, so could the spots be due to overwatering? I’m in Edmonton Alberta, Canada and it’s winter right now.

So, when it comes to checking the soil moisture, I’d suggest using a wooden cocktail stick and leave it in there for a bit, when you take it out, check to see if it’s damp and if a bunch of crumbs stick to it then you don’t need to water. If it’s dry and there’s little to no crumbs then water, additionally the app can be wrong due to environments constantly changing, I use it more to check my plants :)

Also, with a meter, you have to check various spots around the pot. Some areas may register as dry while others will still have moisture. If my meter shows moist in any, I snooze the watering for another couple of days and recheck when it pops up again.

I have to snooze the watering reminder on my snake plant all the time. I actually give the leaves a little bend to see if it needs water. If it’s still pretty hard, I snooze. If they feel a bit floppy or soft, I water thoroughly.

I found another leaf dying on that same bunch with the spotted ones.
1\. I’ve never trimmed or had to cut off a leaf before. Do I just try to cut the one leaf down right to the root dig into the dirt a bit to make sure I get it all?
2\. Do I dig out that whole root and see if there’s more going on then the I can see?

I see the odd small bug flying around as well. No idea what type of bug it is.
