# What in the fig am I doing wrong with this variegated Peace Lily?…

_Gepostet von Puns \& M.O.S.S. am 2025-05-06_

What in the fig am I doing wrong with this variegated Peace Lily?

This is my second peace lily because the first one turned into a war lily and won the war by dying spitefully. I tried everything from regular watering to less frequent, low humidity, high humidity, more light, less light, no light, fertilizer, no fertilizer, filtered water, rain water, toilet water, no water, pruning, repotting, and even leaving soothing music on and giving it positive compliments.. but NOTHING stopped that first piece of sage from hating everything and laughing at me while it died.

Now this second one— let’s call it a Hostile Lily… wait… Hostilily?— this giant pain in my asparagus refuses to thrive, and keeps trying to beat the drums of war. It’s in a well draining pot, has healthy roots, good soil pH and composition but the ends of each leaf slowly keep turning brown.

There’s gotta be something obvious I’m missing right? If anyone has any clues, please let me know before I bust out the white flag and chuck this weeping ash birch in the dumpster.

Thanks
Puns \& M.O.S.S. (Mentally Overwhelmed \& Severely Stressed)

Have you checked really closely for spidermites? Or thrips?

#### Puns \& M.O.S.S. antwortete am 2025-05-06

Oh gosh yes. Sometimes I wish I would find some critters to at least have a better direction on how to help it. But nope, no bugs.

I feel that with some plants lol. Bright indirect light, water with distilled, and good humidity?

I’m so sorry! This is how me and figs are🤦🏻‍♀️😂 what light do you have her in? Also have you been following the Planta watering to a T because it can be off with my plants leading to to much moisture. Last question, is she root bound/been repotted?

I’ve heard nothing good about figs which is why every time I see one at a store I internally tell myself “don’t you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby!”.

I actually only use planta for the community, naming my plants (yes of course they are all pun names), plant ID’ing, and the graveyard, naturally. Their care reminders seem to only work at reminding me to murder my plants.

She was repotted 6ish months ago? I’m not sure… I think I might remember the root ball was pretty big… don’t they like a little choking? Or did I confuse that with myself?

Bahahaha this has me cackling lol. I don’t even know at this point I swear I tried every single possible solution to fix these plants from wanting to kill themselves and nothing ever works.😂

I need a bunch of plant name ideas lol, the puns ones are my favorite

I don’t know the solution to your problem but this post was hilarious so thank you for making my day better.

Well stick me with skewers and call me a cactus, thank you! Stick around if you want more, it’s a safe bet I’ll be back with more problem plants and puns.

At the risk of being redundant in my responses, does that pot have a drain hole? If it does not I would think that is your problem. If there are rocks on the bottom of the pot, that could also be a problem. I water my peace lily when the top of the soil is dry to an inch or so. They like to be moist but not soggy so the drainage is important. Peace lilies will tolerate low light but they do better in moderate to bright indirect light. I agree with the others that you should check the roots and possibly repot. If you have to trim off bad roots you should probably clean the pot and then put it back into the same pot. Repotting into a bigger pot would depend on what you find when you take it out of the pot.

Anymore drainage holes, and the soil is going to drain with it. And I learned my lesson about rocks in plants a few years ago so no rocks in hard pots here.

I think its time to get down and dirty and check its roots. Thank you!!

I mist mine 2 times a day and she seems happy with that humidity and no more brown leaves… our house is very dry

#### Puns \& M.O.S.S. antwortete am 2025-05-06

I’ve got a 1000ft 2 gallon humidifier set to 65% right next to it. If it needs more than that, I’m going to see how expensive a mini sauna is. Boujee ash plant will be living better than me.

Oh wow, I don’t think it the humidity then 🤔

#### Puns \& M.O.S.S. antwortete am 2025-05-06

Yeah I think it’s about time to get to the root of this problem and investigate. Thank you for your help!!

Hilarious post, 🤣, also what kind of soil are you using and how often are you watering?

#### Puns \& M.O.S.S. antwortete am 2025-05-06

Thank you 😆 I aim to please, but I usually.... mist. I know, I’m sorry, I had to. It’s a problem. Just like this plant.

I water when the top is a bit dry and I make my own soil. Can’t remember everything right now but it’s got worm leather, activated BBQ grill dust, and perlite. They were all out of permax and perpro :(

Is there anything that I could have added that they don’t like? Besides love?

Thank you for everyone’s help! I’ll update if I figure something out or if it goes nuclear.
