# Hello! I recently moved to my grandmothers property, these apples…

_Postat av cedar117 den 2025-03-27_

Hello! I recently moved to my grandmothers property, these apples trees were producing crazy amount of fruit last year, but no one has been up keeping them for a few years now. It needs some TLC and I notice that the one has holes all over the body / both have a ton of moss growth and dying branches.
These trees are very sentimental to me they have been here over 28 years, I grew up playing in them and making apple pie and sauce from the harvest. I really want to bring them back if I can.
Looks like it was trimmed a bit but I think that’s because the over growth was just aweful.

I highly recommend hiring a professional experienced with fruit tree maintenance. It could take years to recover if not properly clipped and cleaned up. I grew up in Michigan where everyone had fruit trees, especially apple trees, in their yard. Our macintosh apple tree produced lots of fruit that were dimpled with worm marks because my father, new to snow country, took tree care advice from his pub mates!😄

Ok, do you know by any chance if I could some how harvest the seeds or something to replant from this same tree? Thanks for your help 🙏🏽

I’m sure you can grow it from seeds given sufficient time. Talk to a pro about grafting branches. Grafting should save some years.

I’m not too adept at fruit trees, but if I remember correctly, a new tree planted from seeds from an apple might not bear the exact same apples as the parent tree. Think this is because cross pollination can occur with different trees, causing the genetic makeup to be different. If you’re able to root a cutting of the parent tree, then the new tree would be a genetic clone and should bear the same apples. I don’t personally know how to root a cutting from a tree that would be robust enough to live outside, and it would take years to get it to that point. The tree’s age might make that harder if it doesn’t have much new growth either. It’s worth looking more into this though with an actual expert since you have an emotional attachment to the trees
