# Can anyone help me cure my friend’s plant? It’s a pothos we recently…

Can anyone help me cure my friend’s plant? It’s a pothos we recently repotted but it looks like maybe spider mites in the soil? Or maybe a mold or fungus?Her mother gave her this plant 6 years ago before she passed away so this plant is very sentimental to her so I’d like to help her. Another thing to note: before we repotted, one of the stems was turning yellow, and she had not repotted since receiving this plant, except maybe some new soil on top, which is why we repotted. Roots looked good when repotting. She prefers homemade remedies if anyone can help please and thank you!

I am no expert, but I had a similar issue. I did some bottom watering for a bit, it’s a pain with the pothos because you have to untangle the vines if they’ve climbed somewhere. And then I added diatomaceous earth to the top of the soil. You have to bottom water with this or it becomes mushy and doesn’t work. It helps kill any mites and gnats. And it solved my moldy soil. I also started using those mosquito pellets for rain barrels and such and would soak my water with them. This helps with the gnat eggs.

None of these things killed or impacted any of plants negatively and it eliminated gnats completely after about a month of watering everything this way.

Thank you for your response! I’ve also had good experience with bottom watering to eliminate pests. My friend said she waits a long time between waterings and the soil is still slightly wet. The soil is organic tropical blend from local plant shop, and I’ve used it before with other plants without issue

If her soil is staying wet for too long long, try a grow light or move to a brighter place to help dry it up a little faster
