# hi, everyone:) so i purchased this amy dieffenbachia about 4 months…

hi, everyone:) so i purchased this amy dieffenbachia about 4 months ago or so. it was doing okay for a couple weeks and then the leaves started yellowing and eventually shriveling up. i’ve ruled out any signs of pests. i only water it when the soil is practically completely dry, so i don’t think it’s from overwatering. i’ve been watering less since these signs started just to rule overwatering out, so i don’t think it’s from under watering either. it’s by my window, but on the side so it doesn’t get harsh direct light and is more in the shade. ive repotted since the signs appeared and the roots look great. only thing im seeing online is that this species is just over dramatic and it’s possible it’s doing this for no apparent reason?? i think it is possible its not liking the nutrient amount in the soil, whether too much or too little but i don’t want to have to buy new soil if that isn’t the case. idk but i need help lol. thank you!!

(the potting mix is about 2/4 fox farm potting soil, 1/4 orchid bark, and 1/4 perlite. it’s about 7 inches from my window)

I would check the roots just in case!

honestly it sounds like youre doing all the right things. They are super prone to dropping older leaves too. Your soil mix sounds good to me. The pot could be too big for the root size. I water mine when it’s completely dry and fertilize every time I water.

I don’t think your nutrient levels would be too crazy high. You’d probably see that on all the leaves too.

thank you so much for your help! when i repotted i eyeballed two inches bigger than the last pot but the plant was a bit root bound so it might actually be the pot size. i appreciate you!

Yeah! I’d just try to break up the root ball a bit before repotting!
