Hi! I recently bought a baby Monstera and when I brought her home she was just fine but now the leaves are not okay and I know almost nothing about them. I am fairly certain there are no bugs but if you think otherwise just lmk! Also the soil does not seem to soak up water and I don’t know how to fix that! I do think it needs a repot but I can’t afford well draining soil at the moment so I would love to know what I should do for my baby to get her back to fell health!

ok so def a repot bc water absorbing fast is a sign of root boundness. the soil is ok right now if u can just get normal potting soil
it looks a but sunburnt tbh

Can you buy some perlite at least? It's super cheap but it will help get the soil alittle more chunky. If not try poking some holes in the soil to see if that will help give it water. And put it in a very bright window like an east facing. It might just be from the shock of bringing it into a different environment. If it doesn't get better within a few weeks to a month then hopefully by then you'll be able to buy some good chunky soil. "Mollys" is a good one but kind of expensive. .

I will try my best to get some good soil soon, I am just so scared I will do something wrong if I repot it. But the soil is super dry, so should I just poke some holes like you said and hope it gets water for now?

Hi! I’m also new to plants in general but I’ve don’t my research and I could help I’ve bought 3 monsteras and have had luck with them, here the affordable soil I’ve used.

-organic planting soil - miracle gro
-tropical soil - miracle gro
-orchid soil -miracle gro
-perlite

Doesn’t have to be the big bags just the small ones cause you’ll mix them together. Measure what the pot is right now and increase it by 2 inches. You should be good by then. As for the fertilizer it’s your choice.

What I’ve used is the one they offer here on the app. The plant juice, however I ordered it from Amazon cause I wanted it sooner, it is the same price on Amazon as it is on the app.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you so much! I will use this for repotting! I am just so confused why I can keep Pothos so easily but this one does not like me. I guess that is my fault for thinking they were as easy as pothos lol

What is your humidity like at home? I have a humidifier that stays at 40%-60% at my place I guess all plants like it. I have a pothos that’s hanging and I’ve spread its vines which seems to help. I do need to check what its roots its look like. I’ve had her for a month and it’s doing pretty good. But again I am new to plants so everyday is hoping for the best and hoping they stay alive l.

Here’s how that soil mix I gave looks like on the monstera the lava rocks that come with the tropical soil and the wooden sticks that come with the orchid mix help with filtration and keep it from holding too much water in a bigger pot.
