Hi, need some help with my Maranta Prayer Plant please. Some leaf tips appear to be going brown at the tips and one of them has this odd circular brown spots too. Any ideas? She’s in a south and west facing room and doesn’t really get direct light - now we’re coming into spring/summer this could change. How much direct light do they like? I love her and want her to be happy! 😍

Prayer plant prefer bright indirect light. I've had my prayer plant for probably 15 years. Each year during the winter the leaves get ugly, brown on the edges some spots just plain ugly. Every year I end up cutting all of them off to about an inch of the soil. Sometimes I do this a couple leaves at a time and sometimes I cut it all off at one time depending on how long I leave it before I start. In the end I have a pot full of stubble. I am always careful to look underneath for new growth coming from the soil so that I don't accidentally cut off new growth. And, every year it has come back beautifully. Some people only trim an individual leaf to where it joins the stem but I found it was easier just to cut it all back and wait for a new flush of growth. In the beginning I worried that I was killing the plant but I don't worry about that anymore.

Thank you!! This is really helpful! I might need to think about moving her… the spot she’s been in over Autumn \& Winter has been bright-ish but no direct sun and she’s been pushing out new growth. Maybe somewhere further away from a window might be better now x
