# I’ve had this little guy for about a year now, he doesn’t wanna grow,…

I’ve had this little guy for about a year now, he doesn’t wanna grow, but he’s not exactly DYING. He spends all his time in my back yard in almost full sunlight. I don’t water him regularly, but I make sure to do so when the soil is dry. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make him start growing?! He hasn’t budged!! I want him to live up to his size, but I’m not positive that I ID’d him properly. Any and all help is appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

I recommend reducing the pot size. Cacti will grow slowly and grow mostly roots in an oversized pot if it doesn’t die from root rot. Place it in a pot with about an inch or two of soil around the root ball at most. The pot should not be too deep.

Oh thank you so much!! I’ll move him in the morning. Do you have a size recommendation? I have a HUGE variety of sizes I just don’t know where to start as this is my first cactus.

Look at pot size compared to the cactus when they are sold. Even the largest varieties are kept in a snug pot with just enough space for the roots to grow as shown in the picture above.
