# I just bought this plant two days ago, had her repotted at the store…

_Gepostet von Peyton am 2024-10-30_

I just bought this plant two days ago, had her repotted at the store and was told to water once I got home, which I did. I noticed tonight her bottom leaves are yellowing and drooping (slightly hard to see in pics). Is she in shock? Am I doing something wrong?

i have noticed with my dieffenbachia that old leaves will start to turn yellow and die after i water (and i let her dry out probably too much so i know it’s not overwatering). especially since those leaves are near the bottom, that would be my guess. make sure you’re watering with filtered water also!

Yep! Self-heading plants that grow upward from a single stalk (Dieffenbachia, Aglaonema, Dracaena, Yucca, etc) naturally shed their old bottom leaves over time, but shedding can also be a stress response.

If it continues to drop lower leaves, or starts to drop upper leaves, I'd assess your watering, light, etc. to see if it's environment-related. Hopefully your plant calms down soon. Its top leaves are gorgeous!

Perhaps you should let the store know. And ask them what to do. They are responsible since they did the repotting. You paid for that service.

Some plants are very susceptible to shock even when very gentle. As long as they were not to rough, the plant might lose a leaf or two and bounce back within a few days and begin to grow again. Otherwise if it begins to go into complete shock and start dying (more than a few leaves which is normal after a repot) then I would call the store and ask for a replacement. Many stores will replace plant if it dies within a certain time period. The dying leaves I would trim with clean shears so that the plant can refocus its energy on growth.
