# new plant momma question- just got this bromeliad and its getting…

_Lagt ut av Em den 2024-06-07_

new plant momma question- just got this bromeliad and its getting brown leaves already- is this normal?

I got it last week and its been hot \& humid this week, so i put it in a water bath a few days ago. Its perched up by the window and I think its getting enough light, maybe too much?

What do I do? 🤷‍♀️

I had the same problem with one of my plants too. The app said that it was a drainage problem. Maybe try adding more holes and letting the soil dry a bit or repotting in a pot with more drainage.

Sooo this is the thing about bromeliads lol:

They only live about 2 years. And they’re sold when they’re about 2 years old, because the last stage of their life is when they create an inflorescence (group of flowers)

So the bad news is that this guy is gonna start going downhill.

The good news is that the plant should make a pup (baby plant) pretty soon. Once the pup gets big enough or the original plant dies, you can remove the pup and have a new bromeliad.

Glad to know its not totally a “me” issue 🤣 Ive definitely been hearing similar from researching it more and I do see some “pups” forming already too! And now we wait lol 😂 Thank you for the advice and reassurance
