I'd preemptive clip them with sanitized shears. Like an 1" down from the discoloration

Its up to you really. I leace my aloes alone until i need to repot them, then I'll clean them up a bit. I love aloe veras, ALL kinds!!!

You’re probably fine either way! I’ve had my aloe guy for about four years and I’ve always left those bits. I think they’re pretty sturdy!
