# Hello !! I have a bird of paradise maybe about 6 months to a year old…

Hello !! I have a bird of paradise maybe about 6 months to a year old ?? We got her off Facebook marketplace. She’s growing ! However while I was watering her, a little fruit fly thing flew off the soil ? I’m not sure what bug that is, but is it something to be concerned about ? I’m not sure how to fix it.

Sounds like a gnat. I keep gnat lights plugged in to keep the populations down. If I get an infestation, like from using new soil, I’ll treat with BioAdvanced. With bird of paradise, if you are using a spray treatment, make sure to get it into the folds of the stalk, if that makes sense. I couldn’t cure mine until I realized they live in those little crevices
