# Hi guys I just got a Monstera and it was doing great but recently…

_Opslået af Erika den 2025-03-24_

Hi guys I just got a Monstera and it was doing great but recently noticed this part on a newer leaf. Almost looks burnt, but it’s been growing in surface area on the leaf and part of the stem. Last pic is what it looked like on Saturday. Other pics are from today. Rest of the plant looks very healthy!! Soil is dry at the top currently but still a little moist about an inch down. It sits in front of my patio door and gets a lot of indirect sunlight with about an hour of direct sunlight later in the day. I’ve been misting as the app advises. The plant as a whole looks healthy except for this one section and I’m scared of how fast it’s spreading 😩 is there something I can try? Should I try to remove the affected stem before it spreads?? Any advice would be appreciated!! 🥲 SOS

You don’t happen to have a cat, do you? I’ve had my plants look like this after my cat has bitten it.

Same situation here! Seems like damage to a brand new leaf shows up like this as it unfurls

No pets!! I bought it a couple weeks ago but just noticed this damage late last week and have been keeping an eye on it since then🥲

That is an odd shape. But I know that new leaves will sometimes crisp up like that if there isn't enough humidity. Also unfortunately missing doesn't actually do much for plants 🥲. If you're really worried id chop it. Its gonna look ugly anyways so might as well chop it lol.

It’s typically low humidity or the plant got too dry at some point while the leaf was developing. You can cut it if you want it to work on a new leaf. You can leave it if you don’t mind looking at the damage. The leaf will help with photosynthesis.

Thank you guys for the suggestions!!!! I’m a new plant mom and just really trying do decent 🥲 this is my only “big” plant, the rest are in 4-6 inch pots and all doing well. I’d be so sad if this monstera didn’t do well 🥲🥲
