# Spider mites!! I have been fighting these little buggers forever on…

Spider mites!! I have been fighting these little buggers forever on my poor plant. Every time I think I have smited them, I see their little webs back in about a month. Poor Ethel is taller than I am so there are many places for the mites to hide from me. I really worried I might not win this war.

Ideas for battling such tiny creatures on a large plant like Ethel? Thank you!

Thanks! I think she’s pretty great. As far as I know, she is a strelitzia (white bird of paradise).

I’d take her outside and cover the soil with a bag and spray her down real good with the water hose. Then I’d spray her with insecticidal soap spray but do so in the shade so the sun doesn’t burn it as it’s drying. Then I use systemic granules which work amazing but you do need to be cautious when handling them and make sure your animals or kids don’t mess with your pots and read up on them to see what you’re comfortable with. Other options are mosquito bits and death drops by happy healthy houseplant. Continue to do the insecticidal spray for a few more treatments until they’re gone.

Thank you! I don’t know a lot (any) of those products but will look them up now. And by the time our weather is warm enough to take Ethel outside, I will be ready to execute the plan. Thank you!

If it’s too cold you can do it in the shower she is just so large it’d be easier outside lol

I use this for my plants, it works really well and kills/keeps way more than just spider mites. I spray it all over the plant then wipe the leaves down with microfiber gloves and then I’ll spray it on the spoil then water the plant to make sure the solution soaks thru the soil. It’s already diluted so you don’t have to worry about needing to dilute before using.
