Help! Aloe has these random brown/black spot across a few leaves… they don’t seem to be rotting just surface level spots. Anyone know what they are? Checked for pests and found nothing already.

Had this same exact thing happen to my aloe two years ago, I had just moved and it was flourishing in my old southwestern facing window, moved to an east facing window and it all went downhill fast. They are fungal spots, you can try and treat with a fungal spray, repot it into a chunkier rocky medium, and water with a bit of hydrogen peroxide, give good airflow and hope for the best. I only kept that aloe for two years and once that happened, it sadly passed, and since then I haven’t been able to keep an aloe for longer than two months.

Fungal spots is one explanation for these spots on your aloe. I did read an alternative cause that was less fatal. The little spots happen when the skin of the leaf gets a tiny puncture. These punctures can come either from the plant itself when one leaf with its spine presses against another leaf, or it can be the result of any type of insect bite on the leaf skin. The insect doesn't even have to be attacking the plant just feeding on something on the leaf. No in the odd situation that you would have chickens in your house apparently chickens like to pick it aloe also! I would think if the spots grow continually larger in size would indicate fungal activity. If they stay fairly small then maybe something is making small punctures in the skin.

Have you checked the roots?

Just did, decided to change out the soil in case of infection and the soil is very very old… roots actually looked great!

Yay! Some good soil and sunlight should work!
