# I have several boxwood green velvets that are flourishing and ones…

_Publicado por Amiee el 2025-03-23_

I have several boxwood green velvets that are flourishing and ones that are not. The ones that are not are in the same location and are turning brown/red leaves and the others are not. They are also stunted in growth. We planted them last season. I live in zone 5a.

I would check the root system of the yellowing ones. Sometimes the soil settles under the plant leaving an air gap. Water runs into the gap and drains away before it thoroughly waters the roots. Sometimes the roots get damaged during the planting.

What would be the fix for that if that is what it is? Just make sure there are no air pockets?

Yes, you might need to add soil to ensure all the roots are touching soil. This is only one possibility. Also, check for pests like grub worms that like to eat tender roots.

I’m in the same zone and the exact same thing happened to me. I have a boxwood hedge. Parts of it are flourishing and parts of it look dead. I went to a very reputable nursery and they told me to use a certain spray to protect them from the moth infestation of boxwoods. I was also told tiff fertilise them. It looks like you have mulch around them as do I. I was told to move the mulch aside to expose the roots and use a spray fertiliser.
