# I just got this little guy from the nursery and everything about him…

_Pubblicato da Corin Renee il 2024-09-06_

I just got this little guy from the nursery and everything about him is great I just want to double check to see if these brown spots are something that I should look out for, or to see if anything is wrong. Any insight would be great he is a tradescantia ‘Albovittata’.

I occasionally get brown spots on mine, but it doesn’t seem to be an issue. I would check to see if it’s rootbound, because in my experience the roots grow extremely fast and they hate being rootbound.
As for care, I’ve found that they need extremely bright light. All of mine are either on south or east facing windowsills. And as for water, it can be a balancing game. They like to be completely dry before being watered because they store water in their stems, but they don’t like to be dry for longer than a day or two.

Tradescantias grow extremely fast. I’ll include a picture of mine when I first got it and what it looks like now. They can be propagated super easily. It’s best to propagate straight into soil, because it wouldn’t go into shock. But they root extremely fast in water, but they do occasionally go into shock when they transition to soil. Hope this helps!

I’ve now split it into two pots

I’ve also never propagated it besides the splitting, the plant made all the new stems on its own
