# Anyone have any special tips for goldfish plants? It was a dream list…

Anyone have any special tips for goldfish plants? It was a dream list plant that I ordered from a plant shop that I shop at but is two hours away. They sent me a 4 inch that unfortunately isn’t very bushy yet. It has a good root system that appeared to be healthy, but only about seven small springs of foliage that is slowly loosing leaves. It does have new growth and I repotted it into a much better draining soil and pot with more drainage but a couple weeks later I see no improvement. It’s still slowly loosing leaves and not absorbing water, which I’ve heard they aren’t very thirsty plants due to the leaf structure. The roots didn’t appear to have any root rot and I’ve been waiting for the soil to completely dry. I’m not sure what else to do for her, I’m afraid to give her dry soil for fear of repot shock because I’ve heard they’re finicky. I also can’t find any evidence of pests and I did my regular pest treatments in quarantine for a couple weeks as well. 🫠 Help, she mustn’t die on me!

mine is in a pretty bark heavy mix and right in a south facing window. it was about to bloom before it got burned in a fire recently and i had to cut it back. now it’s in a new south facing window and it’s already growing new leaves — the real game changer for me was tons of sun

Thank you! I did see they don’t like direct light cause they will get fried but lucky I have good indirect light in my plant room and most of my stuff seems to do really well in there as most of my windows are south or west facing

Mine was a flying dolphin, but the same care requirements. I don’t let her dry out, just the top inch or two. I got it Dec 31, from a family member, three stems, near death. When the stems would get long, I would cut it to just over the pot and make a hole and stick this damn right in it removing the bottom couple leaves so they’re not under the dirt. Here is a pic before the thrips infestation 🥺. I had to drastically trim her back after that so I’m basically now starting with two new baby versions of her.

Oh! And I misted her every morning. Good luck!

Did you have any signs before the leaves fell off? Did they fall off green, yellow, or brown?

Slightly yellowish spots? The original soil it was in was too wet feeling and also caked around the roots so I did a wash for the roots and sprayed the dirt off. Added my regular perlite soil mix and watered. It’s just now where the soil is starting to dry out. The first inch or two is dry and a little further is barely wet. This morning one of its newer growths were a bit soft and fell off. 😭

Probably too much watering. You may need to repot it

#### HouseFullOfPlants respondió el 2024-11-28

But it seems like you did that so now just give it time

#### Josie respondió el 2024-11-28

Yeah I thought it was overwatered as well. I’m hoping she’ll survive!
