# My momma has a fiddle-leaf fig in her house and she’s concerned about…

_Posted by Maria Pan on 2024-04-06_

My momma has a fiddle-leaf fig in her house and she’s concerned about why it’s only growing at the bottom. It wasn’t always like this lol. There were leaves mostly at the top before, but now the leaves that were growing on the stems seemed to all dry out before growing.

I tried looking it up but answers are pretty vague, just seeing if someone would have a better idea about why, or what next steps to take. The leaves are so thick, I can’t see whether cutting them would do anything.

She’ll be out of town soon so we’re moving her plants to my condo so I can watch them. Would appreciate any and all insight, thanks!

Have u removed from the pot to see if there was any root rot?

We have not but my mom said it is possible that she overwatered, and it isn’t close to the sun so could not have dried out enough. When we move it to my condo, I can keep it outside and it will be an overall hotter and drier environment anyway. Should I still inspect it and maybe clip away those roots?

Yes overwatering will lead to rot root so if it’s in there u definitely want to get it out. Just check it out.

Wouldn’t take this as advice but personally I would try to experiment and just cut off the stems with no leaves because it’s doesn’t look like anything will start from there again and let the new growth become the new plant. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Get him to one of your brightest windows and then let him be. See how he responds!
