Hmm.. id first check the roots, if the roots are okay, it may be fungal. U can use a fungicide or sterilize tools and cut it off making sure to completely let it callous. I just worry bc the center seems to be black when zoomed.

I've read that it's a separate type of cactus put on top of the base. Citing from Instagram but apparently they're incompatible in terms of Light requirements as well

really??

It is definitely one cactus grafted on top of the other.

damn, well does it effect either cactus?

I'm totally confused. Are we talking about the cactus or the blemish on the cactus. Sorry, I thought the blemish was maybe a scar from an old injury.

The blemish but I’m learning about the cactus itself 😭

Moon cacti (round pink/red) are typically mutants that do not produce chlorophyll, which is why they have such vivid colors—from hot pink to neon yellow. Because they lack chlorophyll, they must be grafted onto a rootstock cactus to survive. The moon cactus is most commonly grafted with Hylocereus undatus (dragon fruit), but it can be combined with a green cactus of any species.

The blemish on the side of the green portion looks like mechanical damage to me, but keep an eye on it. If it keeps getting worse it’s likely rot.
