# Can you guys help me? All the new growth on my creeping Jenny is…

_Gepostet von Danielle am 2024-09-13_

Can you guys help me? All the new growth on my creeping Jenny is brown. It is currently hydroponically planted, it used to be in dirt but I ended up with a gnat problem and after some research I found it could plant these hydroponically and it would thrive. Then the brown tips starting showing up and I’m lost, I didn’t read anything about this and all I can find is that it might be taking up to much water?

Help please!

How long ago did you make the switch?

Its going to take time to adjust and grow roots built for hydro. You’ll notice rotting roots when you change the water. As long as you also see new roots growing then thats nothing to worry about. Once it has started to establish its roots again you’ll want to start adding a VERY diluted fert to the water.

Some plants, while being able to live in hydro, just don’t survive the switch. So keep an eye on its symptoms and if you feel like its dying faster than adjusting you want to address that for sure. If you have enough health portions you might want to take a few cuttings for safety. Prop them in water and then just add them back with the original plant if everyone recovers nicely.

I made the change in early July and it has grown alot of water roots. I might need to clean out the old roots thought. I hadn’t thought to do that

Yeah, it definitely should be adjusted then.

It’s always a good practice to occasionally rinse your hydro plant roots to get rid of any dead or decayed tissue. You can just run it under warm water and I gently massage the roots, the dead stuff will rinse off quite easily. Give the container a good rinse and then put back.

My other thought is what is your water like? It might not like the water you have it in. If you’re on a city system you might want to think about switching to distilled water.

It is city water, but I am starting to use dechlorinated for tropical fish that has worked really well for my mom in the past. But I am going to propagate it and hopefully get more from that.
