# Hello! Anyone have ideas on why my monstera recently developed these…

_Gepostet von Maddie am 2025-02-21_

Hello! Anyone have ideas on why my monstera recently developed these black spots on just one of the main leaves? Overall the plant is doing well \& i inspected for pests but didn’t find any. I let her dry out between watering \& she’s been in the same spot for a year \& a half so lighting hasn’t changed. Thanks in advance!!

It could just be one leaf dying off. I wouldn’t worry unless other leaves show similar signs. Then, check for root bound conditions and repot, if needed.

As I have been researching different problems, on another plant the gold halo around the brown edge was indicative of a fungal problem. It could also be an issue of humidity, but I'm learning something new here. It's not always that the humidity is too low but the monstera can be sensitive to fluctuations in humidity. This makes things more complicated. They do like high humidity but they can also adapt to slightly lower humidity if given the chance. So you / I can either run the humidifier all the time establishing a constant high humidity or maybe use Pebble tray or humidity tray to establish a more constant humidity in the area of your plant. The trick is to find that happy place where humidity and probably temperature stays fairly constant. Unless of course it is in fact a fungal problem then removing the leaf and spraying the fungicide would be in order.

Thanks for the response! What is the best way to figure out if it’s fungal?
