Hi everyone!
I’m a new plant person but it’s been a long time goal of mine and I’m beating my low expectations for keeping things alive 😄 I am struggling with a gnat problem. It appears I have fruit flies or gnats that love living in my plants and keep coming back after my efforts to get rid of them. Any suggestions??

I had the same problem. I bought these on Amazon and works really amazing!!

Brand: Stingmon
54 Pack Fruit Fly Trap for Indoor, Gnat Traps for House Indoor, Fungus Gnat Killer Sticky Traps for plants, Mosquitoes, Flying Insects

Note: I tried Neem Oil spray, changed my potting mix, vinegar in a bowl- nothing worked!!

Thanks for this! I’ve tried soaps and vinegar and separating the plants…giving them a good shower. It only worked temporarily. I’m going to try these!!

Essential oils like basil, peppermint, lavender, and lemongrass can act as natural repellents for fruit flies and gnats.

Try that but that might be the last resort 😭😂

Diatomaceous earth! Also sticky traps work nice too

If you can, grab beneficial nemotodes and use as directed through your watering cycle in all your plants coupled with the yellow sticky traps and bottom watering where possible. Diatomaceous earth is good, but once you water your plant you'll need to reapply another layer and that starts to get expensive. Or, if you want to go whole hog, you can get chemical insecticides to treat your plants, but they're quite rough in the system.

It took me about 2-3 months of cycling the nemotodes with the sticky traps and bottom watering to get the gnat level to a minimum. Good luck!

Only way I got rid of them was letting all my plants dry out (unintentionally), obviously do not recommend, I had many casualties! 😂

Put some old fruit in a cup and seal it with plastic wrap with a rubber band. Poke holes with a toothpick in the plastic wrap and when it gets pretty full grab another piece of plastic wrap to put on top of the cup so they can't escape and make a mad dash to the dumpster or outside garbage can. Do this around your plants a few times and bottle water your plants so they don't lay eggs on the top inch of your soil. It worked so good for me. A grocer in the fruit section told me about this years ago. Thats how they get rid of gnats/fruit flies.

I mean bottom water not "bottle" water lol
