Why is my string of bananas drying up? I have been watering it when the leaves are squishy and wrinkly. I want to fix this problem before it gets worse.

Sometimes water can become hydrophobic. Does your soil hold water? Or does it drain down immediately when any water enters the pot? I cut and prune my string of bananas often and have it in an east facing windowsill.

I have a northeast window and the soil isn’t hydrophobic.
