Is this aloe salvageable? How?

Got it a few days ago and it was pale and floppy so I put it in the sun and watered (soil was dry at least an inch down). There are no roots attached at this point, totally limp and translucent brown. Leaves are thin. Also some animal took a small nibble of it...

I’m in Northern Illinois and this spot gets some sun middle of the day and shade the rest. We’re in a heat wave right now. I don’t have any south facing windows I can put it in.

Yeah I think so too, and the missing roots would be from root rot. So, now what? The soil is drying in the hot sun, it’s dry as deep as the stem goes.

You’re probably right, but I’ll leave it out a few more days before tossing in compost 🤞🤞🤞🤞
