Hi guys. My Persian Ivy isn’t doing well. Her leaves look limp. It’s in a porcelain pot with drainage but I believe the pot is the reason it takes a while to dry out. I think there’s root rot from consistently overly wet soil. How do I fix this ?

I was considering removing it from the soil to inspect and cut the damaged roots then put it to stand in a glass of water
Is that a bad idea?

Please let me know the best type of soil I should get for this plant. I’m planning to move it to a terracotta pot

the pot might be too big for the plant. when that happens the plants energy goes to filling the pot with root and not growing. it can also lead to root rot. I’d definitely take it out of that pot and see the root situation. if all is well, put it in a pot that’s 1-2” bigger than the roots/rootball.

I’m going to try this, it’ll be my first time inspecting roots. Curious to see what I’ll find . thanks soo much!

healthy roots can be various colours and thickness but they’ll always be firm and not black. if they tear with a gentle tug, they are rotted.

Consider putting it in a nursery pot and then put it in the ceramic pot. I find it makes watering, drainage \& maintenance easier, I use the clear ones so I can see what’s going on with the roots.

yes! I’m slowly transitioning all of my plants into clear nursery pots. it’s so easy to see what’s going on AND it helps in knowing when to water. you can clearly see if the soil is dry.

@Danuta A clear nursery pot sounds like exactly what I need, where do you get your clear nursery pots?

@Tigerlilly Where do you find your clear nursery pots? I might try to find some today

I get mine from Amazon, my local plant shop doesn’t sell the clear ones.

@Aliyah I have a few different ones, so far I like these the best
