# Can anyone kindly help me with my (I think) creeping velvet…

_Posted by CourtsParlor2914 on 2025-06-19_

Can anyone kindly help me with my (I think) creeping velvet philodendron? Got this guy a few months ago, discounted because he looks a little like he got in a fight, but has otherwise been healthy and growing steadily (three new shoots recently). Questions:

How long do leaves take to uncurl? It’s been over five weeks for a few and they haven’t moved…

Best way to prune? Sadly one of its biggest newer leaves died (the drooping one) and want to safely remove.

Any other tips overall? 🙏

I recommend giving it more light. The leaves look like they are stretching towards a light source. A good grow light will do if you can’t get it closer to a window.

Light can make leaves yellow. Watering issues can do the same. Check the roots for rotten mushy and smelly roots. Remove and treating found. Water more frequently if the roots are drying out too much.

Five weeks is a long time for a leaf to open. Increase the humidity with a humidifier. Try misting the closed leaves to soften and moisturize it. Sometimes it helps. 🪴🍀

Just cut the dead leaves near the base. The remaining section will dry out and fall off.

Hey!
1- leaves can take a bit to uncurl. I don’t recommend doing this often but you can spray a clean q-tip with water (just damp) and gently see if the leaf is stuck somehow and help it out a little bit
2- pruning I take a pair of shears I use only for plants and clean them before I do anything with them each time I use them (98% water to 2% isopropyl alcohol) in a spray bottle. Spray the shears dry them off and then cut off at the node
Hope this helps and best of luck!! 😊
