Your friend's plant is a Weeping Fig (\*Ficus benjamina\*), and it seems to be experiencing some stress, which has caused it to lose leaves and trunks over time. Here are some tips to help it recover and thrive:

\### 1. \*\*Lighting:\*\*
\- \*\*Bright, Indirect Light:\*\* Weeping Figs prefer bright, indirect light. Ensure it's placed near a window where it can receive plenty of light, but not direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
\- \*\*Avoid Moving It:\*\* \*Ficus benjamina\* is sensitive to changes in its environment. Try not to move it frequently, as this can cause leaf drop.

\### 2. \*\*Watering:\*\*
\- \*\*Consistent Watering:\*\* Water the plant when the top inch of the soil feels dry. Weeping Figs do not like to be too wet or too dry, so maintain a consistent watering schedule.
\- \*\*Avoid Overwatering:\*\* Make sure the pot has proper drainage to prevent water from sitting at the bottom, which can lead to root rot.

\### 3. \*\*Humidity:\*\*
\- \*\*Increase Humidity:\*\* Weeping Figs appreciate higher humidity. You can mist the plant occasionally, place a humidifier nearby, or set the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water (without letting the roots sit in water).

\### 4. \*\*Temperature:\*\*
\- \*\*Stable Temperatures:\*\* Keep the plant in a location where the temperature remains relatively stable, ideally between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Avoid placing it near drafts, heaters, or air conditioners.

\### 5. \*\*Pruning and Shaping:\*\*
\- \*\*Prune for Shape:\*\* Trim back any dead or overly long branches to encourage new growth and maintain a more compact shape. Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears.
\- \*\*Encourage Bushier Growth:\*\* You can encourage bushier growth by pruning the tips of the branches, which will prompt the plant to produce new shoots and leaves.

\### 6. \*\*Feeding:\*\*
\- \*\*Fertilize:\*\* During the growing season (spring and summer), feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. Do not fertilize during the dormant winter months.

\### 7. \*\*Repotting (If Needed):\*\*
\- \*\*Check the Roots:\*\* If the plant seems root-bound (roots growing out of the drainage holes), consider repotting it into a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining soil.

\### 8. \*\*Regular Cleaning:\*\*
\- \*\*Dust the Leaves:\*\* Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth occasionally to remove dust, which can block light absorption and attract pests.

\### Troubleshooting:
\- \*\*Leaf Drop:\*\* If the plant is dropping leaves, it could be due to changes in light, drafts, or watering issues. Adjust care as needed and be patient, as it may take time for the plant to acclimate and recover.

By providing stable conditions and gentle care, the Weeping Fig can bounce back and regain its full, lush appearance. Consistency is key with this plant, so try to maintain a regular routine to help it thrive.
