Hoping someone can help and tell me what might be wrong with my English Lavender. Just planted it about 2 weeks ago in-ground in my front yard. I’m new at growing Lavender. Not sure if it’s too hot and I’m either overwatering or under watering. I’m in Zone 1Ob South Florida so our summers are hot. Soil is sanding but I amended it with in-ground potting soil. It was doing well but noticed the bottom part of the plant turning brown.

Always check for moisture in the soil before watering to help prevent overwatering.

High temperature preferably below 95°F. Try mulching around the base to help keep the soil from getting too hot. I don’t think it’s a heat problem since it’s only the lower shaded branches affected. 🪴🍀

Thanks Sunny. I’ll add the mulch to see if it helps.

You can try a piece of shade cloth over it if it’s a sun problem. A piece of 40% blocking shade cloth of 6’x15’ is about $15.

Thanks Sunny appreciate all of your help. I don’t think it’s a Sun problem because it’s getting morning sun and in the afternoon it’s in the shade provided by a tree. It’s been raining a lot so I fear it might be a water issue as some of the stems are completely breaking off. I added mulch yesterday; I’m hoping this helps too.

Try mounding the soil so the plant is higher than the surrounding ground. This allows for drainage from the roots. That’s how farms plant crops so that the young plants are on raised ground while the valley inbetween channels away excess rain water. Here’s a pic of a farmer elevating lavender. 😁

Hi Sunny thank you so much I’m going to try this. I just saw my lavender and she ain’t doing to good. I have another one planted that seems like she is doing better. I’m thinking what you mentioned might be another issue and not enough sunlight.
