# one of the stems on my monstera snapped but ONLY halfway… I read…

one of the stems on my monstera snapped but ONLY halfway… I read online if you tape it together, the plant can essentially fuse it back together after some time. Does this look saveable?
(top picture is the snap, bottom is with tape)

Sometimes they will if it doesn’t cause infection then your whole plant could get affected. Just leave it and if you start seeing the leaf thin or start turning yellow go ahead and snip it off with clean scissors rub alcohol on it before you snip. And you can take a q-tip and put a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide and water and dab the stem to keep it sterilized. Plants are like any living thing if you get it cut it could get infected the same as a plant.

ohh thank you! fingers crossed it doesn’t get infected… I sprayed it with some water. Thank you for the tip, I’ll keep an eye on it!

Be careful when you’re watering to avoid getting water (wet soil above the injury). The soil is where you’d likely get a bacterial/fungal infection. Bottom water if you can until the wound calluses over.

oh thank you! I got a clean toothpick and carefully cleaned out any small dirt particles from the two sides of the cut… hopefully that’ll help prevent anything. some tiny soil particles may have been on it / may still be there but I tried to clean out any visible parts. This is one of my favourite leaves on this plant so I’m hoping it doesn’t die!
